The New Westminster Homelessness Coalition is hosting a free Grant Writing Workshop for Homelessness Action Week organizers on Tuesday,  Nov 29th from 9:30am – 11:30am.

The workshop will be led by Helesia Luke from Ethos Strategy Group. This is a great opportunity to brush up on your grant-writing skills and learn from others who are working on the same issue.

We know how many volunteers, partners and sponsors it takes to run Homelessness Action Week throughout Metro Vancouver.

Ethos Strategy Group will be issuing a media release and updating a thank you page on the website. If you would like to include local businesses, service organization or other groups in this media release please send us an e-mail with the name of the person or organization.

The goals of this survey are to:

• gather information about the challenges faced by businesses
• use this information to create practical tools and referral resources that will contribute to lower risks for businesses in terms of cost, comfort and safety for businesses and employees.

We encourage you to ask your local supportive businesses or public sector organizations that deal with the public (like libraries, community centres, constituency offices) to visit www.stophomelessness.ca to complete the 2-minute survey.

All participants may enter to win a Vancouver gift basket from Saul Good Gift Co. valued at $100. The survey closes on December 16, 2011.

We will be printing a limited number of flyers to help promote this survey. If you would like to receive some, please e-mail hluke@ethosstrategygroup.com and include your mailing address.

The 2011 poster & ad are now available for download here and our first ad in the Georgia Straight will appear on September 22.

We have printed posters. Please contact Helesia to order as many as you can post in your community.

There are a number of other resources that can help you plan, organize and implement Homelessness Action Week events.

• Send us your events to post on the website calendar
• Join and get updates through Facebook and Twitter
• Facilitation for event planning sessions
• Workshops on grant writing, event planning and media relations
• Media relations services including media releases backgrounders, speaking notes and coaching for spokespeople

You can sign up for one or more three hour shifts. Snacks and lunch will be provided.  The location is only a few short blocks from the Waterfront Skytrain Station. Once you sign-up, you’ll receive the details.

Fun will be had by all~! This is a great way for youth to get involved with Homelessness Action Week.

NEW Volunteer Pins

Volunteer pins now available for your events. Contact Helesia at 778.786.2838 or hluke(@)ethosstrategygroup.com to request pins for your volunteers.

Humans have been telling stories since the beginning of time and, as it turns out, some of these stories were critical to keeping us safe and healthy. We’re hard-wired to learn from and retell stories. This workshop will help you to deliberately select and craft stories that advance your cause. It is useful to anyone – from volunteers to professional service providers.

This workshop is free but pre-registration is required. You are welcome to circulate this invitation to your colleagues.
